San Lorenzo’s Parish Complex
Valenzano, Bari
The project concerns the construction of a parish center in Valenzano (BA). It intervenes in an area characterized by the presence of tall residential buildings; the latter surround the space for the parish complex on three sides, making any relation with the context impossible. The project plays on a friction-dialogue relationship between the porch and the building volumes that it contains. The square-shaped porch is a "fence", a mediating element that clearly identifies the scope of intervention. Inside the “fence” the juxtaposition of pure geometry volumes defines a complex system of open spaces and clearly differentiates the various functional areas.
