Amongst the rows of apple trees in the Val di Non, the demolition and reconstruction of an anonymous 1970s residential building provided the opportunity to retrieve the building’s relationship with the landscape and value the spectacular view over the valley. The new, formal and extremely simplified architecture retains the original proportions and volumes. The project reinterprets the essential features of the alpine architectural tradition: monolithic and compact body, white plaster on the façades, and wood as natural frame for windows Exceptions to this local style are the embedding of the eaves within the perimeter walls and the free composition of the openings. The façades play with the juxtaposition of the windows, which are placed in relation to the different spaces that they are meant to light up. Amongst the rows of apple trees in the Val di Non, the demolition and reconstruction of an anonymous 1970s residential building provided the opportunity to retrieve the building’s relationship with the landscape and value the spectacular view over the valley. The new, formal and extremely simplified architecture retains the original proportions and volumes. The project reinterprets the essential features of the alpine architectural tradition: monolithic and compact body, white plaster on the façades, and wood as natural frame for windows Exceptions to this local style are the embedding of the eaves within the perimeter walls and the free composition of the openings. The façades play with the juxtaposition of the windows, which are placed in relation to the different spaces that they are meant to light up. The simplification of the exterior of the building contrasts with the interior spatial complexity that is articulated around a monumental stairwell. Centrally located, the latter divides the various areas of the house through overlapping flights of stairs that are cast in a two-level gap between the walls. The cuts through the floor slabs unexpectedly open up the space vertically and multiplying the visual links between the rooms.
