Piazza del Popolo, Sacile, Pn - Competition first prize
The project develops in the historic centre of the town of Sacile (Pn); it involves the renovation of the People’s Square and of its surrounding spaces that overlook the Livenza River. The idea was to lay upon the whole square’s area a “coat” that comes into relation with the site and the pre-existing spaces, going along with the soil trend and balancing the difference in height of the portico. The spaces overlooking the river maintain their original physical identity which is marked by size and boundaries, but establishes a new relationship with water by creating rest areas that have direct physical and visual contact with the water. Under the portico, the project preserved the old floor and all the valuable existing stones. The latter were integrated into the new flooring.
